Itinerary in Details
Day One: Arrival at Kigali and cross to Uganda – Bwindi
Today, our company representative will pick you up from your lodge, residence, or Kigali international airport for a drive to Bwindi impenetrable national park; home to the largest concentration of the only surviving endangered mountain Gorillas in the world. It is situated south of Uganda and takes to 3-4 hours drive from Kigali Rwanda via the magnificent Katuna border post.
However, you will also have a city tour around the park; visiting the local markets and the Genocide memorial site in to watch some documentaries and pay tributes to over 250000 Tutsi and Hutu who lost their lives in the 1994 ethnic genocide. The drive to the park is decorated with undulating hills, plantations, the backdrop of the giant Virunga Mountains, and several other breathtaking sceneries.
Day Two: Gorilla trekking and departure
The first thing after leaving bed today is a hefty breakfast meal very early in the morning, and then a scenic drive to the park headquarters for a briefing that lasts for about 30-40 minutes. What is done during the briefing includes elaborating the dos and don’ts of Gorilla trekking, document verification, and allocating members to gorilla families of their choice.
Mountain Gorillas are only found in East Africa around the Virunga Mountains, with Bwindi harboring the largest concentrations that are reported to be a bit different from the rest. Gorilla tracking lasts for about 1-8 hours, plus one extra hour in one of the sectors in the heart of the Jungle.
